Curriculems of Wu Tan

Wu Tan curriculum is geared toward four different directions in the training of personal development:

Health Program ("HP")

Martial Arts Program ("MAP")

Combat and Self-defense Program ("CSP")

Injury Prevention Program ("IPP")

Each program represents a unique aspect of the Chinese culture in the field of martial arts. The courses in each program are designed for the students to learn the basic concepts and application of Chinese martial arts in relation to their understanding of Chinese culture.

The Health Program is designed for those people who are seeking a physical and mental balance in their life. The fundamentals of this program include breathing, relaxation, meditation and flexibility training. Adhering to the traditional believe of cultivating rather than burning of the energy, this program is ideal for people interest in learning and practicing gentle exercise.

The Martial Arts Program combines the study of techniques, strategy and philosophy of Chinese culture. A complete training regimen for both body and mind, it is recommended for the active people interest in challenging their physical conditions as well as their intellectuals capacities.

Combat and Self-defense Program utilizes the basic skills and applies them in different situation for the purpose of safety and higher learning. A strong foundation in the basic MAP is required for this type of training. Therefore the program is recommended for people with at least intermediate level of experience.

Injury Prevention Program offers a safe participation of all students by understanding the basic anatomy and physiology of physical training and related injuries. Traditional oriental medicine and acupuncture as well as principles of Western sports medicine will also be utilized in the training of this program.

 

Basic Descriptions on Some Selected Courses

Tan Tuei
A 12-section form broken into 2 parts, Tan Tuei is a perfect introductory form for beginners. Designed to loosen up the limb and set proper footwork, this linear and fundamental form shows many basic skills needed to excel in the more advance training.

Tai Chi Chuan
A popular form in both China and the Western world, its gentle and continuous movements adheres to the principle of Yin and Yang (Positive and Negative of the opposite in the nature, zero and one in computer system) that shapes the basis of Chinese culture. Wu Tang offers a complete system of Tai Chi Chuan including Chen's and Yang's styles from level 1 to 7 and a special Pa Tzu Tai Chi, origin of Pa Chi Chuan system.

Tong Long Chuan
Also known as Praying Mantis style. The characteristic of hand movement symbolizes the mantis in combat. Quickness, agility and many acrobatic moves make this style very effective in close range combat situation.

Ba Ji Chuan
A very famous martial arts system in China, and the major system in Wu Tang. Its history can be traced back as far as Ming Dynasty (1368-1682). Pa Chi Chuan is a dynamic, direct and effective method of fighting with its motions resembling that of a tiger and a bear. Pa Chi Chuan emphasizes on the stable lower body frame, simple and effective movement and efficient use of energy.

Pi Kua Chuan
The advanced form of Pa Chi Chuan, relatively unknown to most people in the world of martial arts. Flexible and mobile, Pi Kua Chuan shows another side of Pa Chi Chuan with more use of arms instead of fists.

Ba Kua Chuan
Also known as Eight directional Palm. A system also dated back for more than three hundred years in the Chinese history, utilizes the changing of palms and foot work to encircle the opponent.

Special Courses
An intensive course taught in a specified time period for people who are not able to enroll in the Wu Tang scheduled classes due to their conflict with time. Each program gives its own certificate upon completion of the program. Prerequisite of rank and courses may not apply in the special programs.
